Is all Veterinary Acupuncture the
Same?
Some US Acupuncture programs use a
‘westernized’ version of Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine (TCVM) which attempts to recast the Chinese system
in terms of western medicine. Dr. Rachel Addleman, DVM, DABVP, CVA is
certified by the Chi Institute of Chinese Medicine which is the only
program in the US certified by the Chi Institute and China National
Society of TCVM, China, and endorsed by the South China Agricultural
University College of Veterinary Medicine.
Dr. Addleman has learned from the Master,
Dr. Shen Huisheng Xie,
DVM, PhD Dr. Xie (pronounced “shay”) who received his Doctor
of Veterinarian Medicine at the Sichuan College of Veterinary Medicine in China in 1983 and a
Master of Science in Veterinary Acupuncture in 1988. In 1999, he received
his Ph.D. from the University of Florida for his investigation of the
mechanisms of pain control in horses by using acupuncture. Today, Dr. Xie
is the Director of the Veterinary Acupuncture Internship Program at the
Veterinary Medical Center of the University of Florida.
